About Us

How We Met

We met in the summer of 2004 when I was planning a trip to the beach with two of my girlfriends. One of these girlfriends, April, had a cat she was leaving with a co-worker while she was away. So we all went together to leave her house key with her co-worker before we set out on our adventure. Much to my surprise, April's chemical engineer co-worker was young and very attractive! There was an instant spark between us that became a fast friendship. We became inseparable and by that same time the next year, our great friendship had turned into a great relationship!

The Proposal

The morning started with what I thought was just a typical mother-daughter shopping trip. When I returned home, though, I noticed a card and two roses on the front door. When I opened the card, I found a puzzle that started me on a scavenger hunt that took me all over town to different places that were significant to our relationship - the place we first kissed, where we first said "I love you", etc. Each location had a new card and rose, as well as other clues - a tape recorder and tape, a locked box and keys. Finally, I got to a card that said I had to wait until a certain time to open it. When the time came, I opened the card and it said I had to get to a special place, but how would I get there with no car? I opened the front door and my car was gone! I called my friend who was my liason through all this and she said that she was supposed to come pick me up. So I waited until she told me she was just about to turn onto my street. I went outside to meet her...but instead of seeing her, I saw a black stretch limousine! The driver explained that he was there to pick me up, so I got in and was blindfolded for the voyage. When the limo stopped, James was waiting and led me out of the limo (still blindfolded). When he took the blindfold off I saw that I was standing on top of the mountain overlooking the city. It was where we had gone at the beginning of our relationship to just stare at the stars and the city lights. Then he got down on one knee and told me how much I meant to him and asked me to marry him! It was absolutely perfect. Afterwards, we went to the restaurant where we had our first date to celebrate! It was the perfect proposal, and it just got even better when I learned all the behind-the-scenes stuff he had done to make it perfect - having my mom get me out of the house, going and asking my dad for permission to marry me, coming up with all the puzzles, hiding all the clues, getting my parents to "steal" my car, and having my friend trick me into believing she was coming to pick me up (when she was actually sitting at home). It was the most romantic and creative proposal ever!
